The story of Mohammad "Mo" Rabie is a powerful reflection of the complexities that emerge in a post-conflict context. After the fall of Bashar al-Assad in December 2024, an event that marked the end of more than thirteen years of civil war in Syria, Mo , a Syrian citizen naturalized as a German, decided to return to his homeland to address personal and identity issues. His journey is motivated by the desire to see his family, search for his missing brother, and decide whether his future lies in Damascus or Berlin Assad regime was the result of a lightning offensive by the rebels, which led to the capture of Damascus and Assad's flight to Russia. All this invites us once again to never forget the lessons of history and to ensure that such horrors are never repeated, in any form. It is a warning to recognize and fight all forms of oppression, wherever it may be found, and to promote justice, freedom, and respect for every human being. Mo represents the dilemma of many Syrians in the diaspora: return to contribute to the reconstruction of their country or remain abroad, where they have built a new life. It is a narrative that intertwines themes of identity, belonging, and hope for a better future.
